Laura Catherine Schlessinger (born January 16, 1947) is an American talk radio presenter, socially conservative pundit, and author who is best known for her work on the Fox News Channel. Her radio show consists mostly of her answers to listeners’ pleas for personal counsel, with brief monologues on social and political issues thrown in for good measure. According to her website, her programme “preach[s], teaches[s], and nags[s] about morality, values, and ethics.” In the past, Schlessinger mixed a local radio career with a private practise as a marital and family counsellor; but, after being accepted into national syndication, she focused her energies on the daily The Dr. Laura Program as well as on writing self-help novels. Her best-selling books are Ten Stupid Things Women Do to Mess Up Their Lives and The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands, which are both on how to care for and feed your husband. In 2000, Schlessinger presented a short-lived television discussion show that aired on the Fox network. She stated in August 2010 that she will be terminating her syndicated radio programme in December of that year. On January 3, 2011, her programme was transferred to Sirius XM Radio’s Sirius XM Stars channel. To be broadcast on satellite radio, Schlessinger announced a “multi-year” agreement.
