Aranda, the man that pushed him, was arrested immediately after as he was trying to flee to the mall’s transit station. He is believed to have a history of mental health problems and had been ordered to stay away from the mall twice. He had previously told police that “he has some anger issues” after being arrested for smashing computers at a Minneapolis public library.

According to police reports after investigations, Aranda went to the mall specifically “looking for someone to kill”. He originally “planned to kill an adult because they usually stand near the balcony” but instead set his sights on Landen Hoffman.

He repeatedly stated in his interview that he had the plan and intention to kill someone at the mall that day and that he was aware that what he was doing was wrong”. Aranda He is currently is facing charges of attempted premeditated first-degree murder for the crime.
