Biography – Lady Ponce, a sure bet of Cameroonian music

Author-songwriter, this great dancer with a slender silhouette has inherited her strength of character and the workings of the “beti” tradition of her mother, a great singer and host of the village association networks, and moreover namesake of our very dear diva (Ngono Rufine Adele for the mother).

Very early initiated to the art of singing when she was 10 years old, LADY PONCE first succeeded in the public square by replacing her mother, during a visit of the sub-prefect of the locality. Her strength of character and precision will make her performance a real emulation that will spread like wildfire in the surrounding localities and make her the bouquet of roses of all similar events. Shortly after her debut, she joined the orders hoping to become a religious sister. This education will eventually shape one’s being and develop one’s selflessness.

Then, at the age of 16 and in the midst of a teenage crisis, “the little sander”, will touch the bitterness of life that results in the death of her mother. Morally misaligned, the diva then migrates to Yaoundé and moved to Essos in the family area alongside his older brothers, determined to make a career in the song. But the tenacious nature of the sadness follows suit with the death of his father, six years later.

Dedicated more than ever, LADY PONCEis part of a choir at the chapel of Essos, the following year. She also joins a Congolese band and starts performing in a cabaret at Camp Sonel. At 17, she joined the most fashionable establishment of the capital “CASCADE” where she was initiated to the theory of Jazz by the group Vibration with which she evolves for a while while expanding her repertoire on hot rhythms (Bikutsi – Makossa-Ndombolo-Salsa …) and in parallel listening songs. But her first loves are folklore and her idols: Sally Nyolo, Koko Ateba, Anne-Marie Nzie … to name just a few.

While the cabaret is in full swing , LADY PONCEintegrates the famous troupe “Akoak”, a musical foundation with which it records an album of ten titles whose output will be delayed or even mortgaged.

The wave is rising and in 2004, the diva knock on the doors of the studios for the realization of his illustrious album “The Belly” and surrounded by a young dynamic team (composed among others Tonton Ebogo, Patou Bass, Aimé Lebeau …) who will give him all their moral and physical support.

In the future, LADY PONCE meets joseph Angoula Angoula, a Cameroonian producer at the end of her career who is on leave in the country that accepts the product and launches herself in a circumstantial way. This is the beginning of turpitudes. The album does not leave the same year due to the resurgence of piracy. After a slump, the opus (six titles) finally released in the bins in 2006 and is entitled “the belly”. Of unparalleled purity, this album combines both Bikutsi, folklore and urban rhythms, giving the opportunity to all music lovers to navigate.

The broadcast of the title of the same name, summarizes all the album and place LADY PONCE head of all the charts on its release. Thanks to him, LADY PONCE is dedicated to the female revelation of the year and is the subject of much media coverage and saliva among fans. Since then, the Diva continues to climb the echelons of Cameroonian and even African music.

Every day and more than ever the Lady “Tsunami” continues to “sand” us.
