Nora Ephron’s net worth, biography, fact, career, awards and life story

Nora Ephron Net Worth: Nora Ephron was an American journalist, screenwriter, novelist and producer who had a net worth of $40 million. Nora Ephron was born May 19, 1941 in New York City, New York. She was best known for her wildly successful romantic comedies and was nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Writing for Silkwood, When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle. She won a BAFTA Award for Best Original Screenplay for When Harry Met Sally. Nora sometimes wrote with her sister Delia Ephron. She also co-authored the Drama Desk Award–winning theatrical production Love, Loss, and What I Wore. In 2013, Nora received a Tony Award nomination for Best Play for Lucky Guy. Her sister Amy is also a screenwriter and her sister Hallie is a journalist, book reviewer and novelist who writes crime fiction. The Ephron girls’ parents, Henry and Phoebe Ephron, based the character in their play and film version of Take Her, She’s Mine on the then-22-year-old Nora and her letters from college. Sadly, both of Nora’s parents became alcoholics during their declining years. Nora graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1958 and from Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, in 1962, after which she married three times and even wrote the 1983 novel Heartburn based on her marital woes. The novel was then made into the 1986 Mike Nichols film starring Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep. In the book, Ephron wrote of a husband named Mark who was “capable of having sex with a Venetian blind.” She also wrote that the character Thelma (based on Margaret Jay—Nora’s then-best-friend and the woman her then-husband had an affair with) looked like a giraffe with “big feet.” Bernstein threatened to sue over the book and film, but he never did. Nora was married for more than 20 years to screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi until her death. The couple lived in New York City. Her son Jacob Bernstein went on to direct an HBO movie about his mother Nora’s life called Everything Is Copy. Nora Ephron’s last film was Julie & Julia, starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams.
