Kristen Aguirre is an American journalist who was born and brought up in Chicago, Illinois, United States of America. Currently, she works at 9NEWS in Denver, Colorado, as an Anchor and Reporter. Previously, before coming to Denver, Kristen worked as a morning anchor in Flint, Michigan for three years.
Aguirre graduated from Western Illinois University in 2009 before heading back to her hometown of Chicago for grad school at DePaul University. She is a staunch supporter of the Blue Demons.
She loves giving back to her community and volunteers as much as she can. Some of her favorite organizations are Big Brothers Big Sisters and the American Heart Association. When Kristen is not at work and has some time to spare, she loves to cook Mexican food, spend time with family, read, and if she has to… workout, but mostly she prefers to eat Mexican food!

While in Flint, Aguirre covered national stories like the terrorist attack at Bishop International Airport and the Flint water crisis. Her work, focusing on how the Latino community was impacted by the lead-tainted water, earned her an Emmy nomination. She joined the 9NEWS team in September 2017, and she has been excited to discover what her new home of Denver has to offer!

Aguirre is recovering from an ischemic stroke she had in April 2019. Her toughness was legendary before the day she had a stroke but she is redefining the term now by recovering steadily from the life-threatening event. “This stroke doesn’t have to ruin my life, I like to think it’s enlightened it. It’s opened my eyes to an entirely new way of living & thinking. Things are harder but not impossible! I’ve always thought I was a tough cookie but now I know it! Thanks for asking!”
According to another tweet from her account dated October 2, 2019, Aguirre says that during her sick leave, its the small things she misses. She misses clearing scripts and zoning in before a newscast! She promised her viewers that she’d see them soon.
