Kitty Wells Net Worth, Income, Salary, Earnings, Biography

Ellen Muriel Deason (August 30, 1919 – July 16, 2012), better known by her stage name Kitty Wells, was an American country music singer who rose to fame in the 1930s. Her 1952 smash single, “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels,” made her the first female country singer to reach the top of the country music charts in the United States, and catapulted her to the top of the country music world. Her Top 10 successes lasted until the mid-1960s, and she was the inspiration for a slew of female country singers who rose to fame in the 1960s as a result. According to historian Joel Whitburn’s book The Top 40 Country Hits, Wells is the sixth most successful female vocalist in the history of Billboard’s country charts, trailing only Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire, Tammy Wynette, and Tanya Tucker.

Wells has released six studio albums, the most of any female vocalist in the history of Billboard’s country charts. In 1976, she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, where she has remained since. In 1991, she became the third country music artist to earn the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, after Roy Acuff and Hank Williams, and the eighth woman to receive the honour. As a result of her achievements, Wells was given the title “Queen of Country Music.”
