Speaking of his career, Wilbur was a frequent caller to Seattle talk radio, when in 1993 a producer at KVI-AM asked him to audition for an on-air position and was first employed as a substitute host, then started weekday evening broadcasts.

From there, in 1995, he started hosting the 5.00 am and 9.00 am time slot, as The Kirby Wilbur Show which was later renamed to Kirby & Co. in 2006 and began to feature occasionally, but increasingly irregular, contributions by KNI news director, Carleen Johnson and producer David Carson.

The show also hosted frequent and famous guests for interviews, including “Brian the Movie Guy”, Donald Rumsfeld, Laura Schlessinger, and Dennis Miller. However, Wilbur broadcasted the last edition of the show for it was indicated by the network’s general manager that the season was declining ratings but no misconducts were cited.

However, Wilbur returned to the network on January 4, 2016, in the 9 a.m.- noon slot, including co-hosting the first hour with morning drive host John Carlson. This has since then, been increased to the first two hours 8 a.m.-10 a.m. and with Carlson, 10 a.m.-noon). Since 2003 Wilbur has served as a fill-in host on 11 episodes of the Sean Hannity Show.
