Kim Broderick Testimony
Kim testified on 22 October 1991, that her mother told her she intended to commit suicide after shooting her ex-husband and his new wife, Kolkena, but that her 38-caliber pistol ran out of bullets. Under cross-examination for the second day in her mother’s second shooting trial, Kim Broderick, then 21, said that in a phone conversation after the firings, she remembered her mother being bothered but not crying.
She also testified that she did not remember any details of her mother’s description of the Nov. 5, 1989, shootings in which three out of five shots hit and fatally wounded Daniel T. Broderick III, 44, and Linda Kolkena Broderick, 28, in the bedroom of their Marston Hills house.
In 1990, during the first trial that concluded in a hung jury, Kim testified that her mother wept in telling her of the murders and remarked that, upon being hit, Daniel Broderick groaned as his last words: “OK, you shot me. I’m dead.”
On the October 22 testimony, Kim told the court that she could not recall whether her mother ever disclosed such a remark and that she only remembered only her mother’s “shaking” voice. “She was not crying in any of our phone calls,” Kim stated.
