Kezia Dugdale was born on August 28, 1981, in Aberdeen. She attended Harris Academy in Dundee, where she was Head Girl. She studied law at the University of Aberdeen from 1999 to 2003 and a master’s degree in policy studies at the University of Edinburgh from 2004 to 2006. While at university, she worked as a campaigns and welfare adviser for the Edinburgh University Students’ Association and as a public affairs officer for the National Union of Students Scotland.
From 2006 to 2008, Dugdale was a member of Scottish Labour’s Policy Forum, as well as an election agent for both Sarah Boyack MSP and Sheila Gilmore MP. She had also worked as a researcher in Pauline McNeill’s parliamentary office. She was the parliamentary office manager and political adviser for Labour Lothian regional MSP George Foulkes, who was also a Labour life peer at the time.
Dugdale was announced as a contestant on ITV’s reality show, I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, in November 2017. She later faced disciplinary action from the Labour Party for failing to notify party managers that she would be out of the country on non-work-related business while the Scottish Parliament was in session. On November 21, the party announced that she would not be suspended.
