Kevin Torres Biography
Kevin Torres is an American award-winning journalist who was born and raised in Upstate New York, United States of America. Currently, he works as a reporter for KDVR FOX31 and Channel 2 News. Torres runs a segment called Unique 2 Colorado which airs Monday-Friday on Channel 2 News.
Torres has covered some of Colorado’s biggest stories, including the Aurora Theater shooting, the Black Forest Fire, the Waldo Canyon fire and the historic floods of 2013 (just to name a few). Kevin also traveled to Boston to cover the Boston bombings, as well as Texas for the West, Texas explosion in 2013.
Since 2009, the 11x Emmy Award-winning journalist has trekked to every corner of the state and nearly every community in between.

On one occasion, he was choked by a bully, so hard that he had to be rushed to the emergency room due to damaged tissue in his throat.
Following the choking incident, in a post on his blog, kevintorresreports.squarespace.com, dated October 17, 2013, titled I was bullied in high school, he wrote:
“I never knew why he did what he did. And to this day I still don’t know. Looking back on it, I remember him calling me names such as ‘homo’ and other gay slurs. I wasn’t out in high school. I kept it a secret. I was afraid to tell anyone. I didn’t end up coming out to my family and friends until the following year when I was a freshman in college. It took me 18 years to understand and accept the fact that I was gay.”
“Being gay in High School back then wasn’t easy. I’m not sure if it’s any easier now. I assume in some schools it is because being gay is accepted more in society. However, there are still schools in small towns (like the school I went to) where being gay is considered unacceptable. Some kids think it’s okay to make other kids’ lives a living hell because they don’t accept their lifestyle or understand it. It’s unfortunate. And in some cases, it leads to some kids committing suicide.” Kevin Torres proceeds.
“Every time I hear about kids taking their own lives because they were bullied for being gay, my stomach twists and turns.”

Torres joined the KWGN Channel 2 News Team in the Spring of 2015. He also reports for KWGN’s news partner, KDVR FOX31. Kevin’s segment ‘Unique 2 Colorado’ airs Monday-Friday on Channel 2 News at 4 pm and Channel 2 News at 7 pm.
Before joining the Emmy-Award winning news teams at Channel 2 News and FOX31, Torres spent five and a half years reporting for 9NEWS in Denver.
