He is also the CEO, founder and chairman of Under Armour which is a manufacturing company which produces sportswear, footwear and accessories. The company is based in Baltimore in Maryland. Plank is a Roman Catholic who grew up in Kensington, Maryland.

He is the youngest among five brothers. His father is Wiliam Plank and mother Jayne Plank. Plank grew up while playing football with the Maplewood sports association. He later left the Prestigious Georgetown Preparatory School due to his poor performance and behavioral issues at the school. he proceeded to St.John’s College High School which was a Catholic Church just like the one he had left in 1990.
He resumed his love for football after he joined Fork Union Military Academy for a year in which he tried to get the attention of NCAA Division I Schools. However, he proceeded to the University of Maryland College Park where he joined the football team there. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration after graduating from in 1996. Darren Drozdov a football player and professional wrestler was his roommate back in Maryland.

Plank began practising entrepreneurship while he was still in the University of Maryland where he sold roses on Valentine’s day. He launched it as Cupid’s Valentine. He earned $3,000 from Cupid which enabled him to plant the seed that turned out to be Under Armour. The inspiration that sparked the idea to start up Under Armour cane to Plank when he was playing for the Maryland Terrapins.
Plank states that he was the sweatiest guy on the field which made him become more furious at his cotton T-shirts’ inability to keep him dry and comfortable. he went back after the match and searched for a material that would wick the sweat from his body. He continued doing research about the synthetic material even after graduating from Maryland.
Finally, he found it and with a mix of his own cash, credit cards and a Small Business Administration loan he launched the business. Although he ended up trying several prototypes before deciding on the one he wanted to use.
