In January, Pietersen’s services were bought for £418,000 by Deccan Chargers, the Hyderabad franchise in cricket’s Indian Premier League. Not bad for a few weeks’ work but a drop of £600,000 on the amount Royal Challengers Bangalore bid for England’s best-known batsman in 2009. South African-born Pietersen, 30, earns about £250,000 a year from Test matches and one-dayers, and has lucrative sponsorship deals with the likes of Adidas and Brylcreem.
He married Jessica Taylor, the Oxford-born former Liberty X singer, at a winter wonderland-themed wedding at Castle Combe in Wiltshire in 2007. Dubbed the Posh and Becks of cricket, the couple’s first son, Dylan, was born last year. Kevin Pietersen has an estimated net worth of $7.5 million.
