Kenya Rural Savings and Credit Cooperatives Societies Union – KERUSSU

The Kenya Rural Savings and Credit Cooperatives Societies Union (Kerussu) is the umbrella national cooperative organisation for rural Saccos. It was registered in 1998 and the secretariat was set up in 2001. It brings together 53 rural Saccos with a membership of over 1.5 million. As the voice of its’ corporate members, the union articulates the unique needs, opportunities and challenges of its affiliates.

It brings together rural Sacco societies where the members’ key source of income is tea, coffee and horticulture.

Through the efforts of Kerussu, rural Saccos have undergone tremendous growth, allowing them to participate in economic activities generated by the government policies to devolve funds, such as Constituency Development Fund.
