He started playing football for the youth team of AFC DWS and later on, played for the youth team of AVV Zeeburgia. In 2005, he joined the youth team of Ajax and began his career at the club. He signed his first professional contract with Ajax on 20 July 2012, binding him to the club until 30 June 2015. He spent his first year as a professional playing for the Ajax A1 youth team, without receiving any call-ups to the first team. He made his professional debut for recently promoted reserves team Jong Ajax on 5 August 2013 in the Eerste Divisie, the 2nd tier of professional football in the Netherlands. He made his first-team debut for Ajax on 5 February 2015. On 10 July 2017, he signed for French side Lyon for a fee believed to be around €3m. He made his debut for the club on 11 August 2017.
