Kenneth Winston Starr was an American lawyer.
Starr served as a federal appellate judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from 1983 to 1989 and as the U.S. solicitor general from 1989 to 1993 during the presidency of George H. W. Bush.
The Texas native was appointed by the US Department of Justice in 1994 to investigate Whitewater, a scandal-plagued 1980s land venture that involved both Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton.
While conducting the investigation, Starr found evidence that Clinton had been having an affair with a White House intern, Monica Lewinsky.
It resulted in Clinton being impeached by the US House of Representatives in 1998. He was subsequently acquitted by the Senate. Starr wrote about the inquiry in a bestselling book, Contempt: A Memoir of the Clinton Investigation.
Starr served as the dean of the Pepperdine University School of Law. He was later the president and chancellor of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, from 2010 to 2016. He continued to practise law after leaving the university.
Starr also taught constitutional law, penned several books and was a legal pundit for Fox News.
More recently he served on the team defending former President Donald Trump from impeachment in 2020.
Ken Starr died complications from surgery on September 13, 2022, at age 76 at the Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston, Texas.
