With the exception of the tracks on their 2017 album Novum, all songs released by Procol Harum that were not previously recorded by someone else have lyrics written by Keith Stuart Brian Reid (19 October 1946 – March 2023).
Despite playing no performing roles in the band, Keith Reid was an official member of Procol Harum and attended all of their recording sessions as well as the majority of their live appearances.
Reid kept penning lyrics for the group up until its dissolution in 1977. Reid has claimed that his family’s experience of the Holocaust is the source of the melancholy in his lyrics.

Keith Reid, an English songwriter, has no children, which is a sad fact. But once new information becomes available, we’ll update this. The Keith Reid Project released a brand-new album in August 2008 titled The Common Thread. The songs’ lyrics were written by Reid, and they were performed by a number of musicians, including Southside Johnny, Chris Thompson, John Waite, and Michael Saxell. Keith Reid and Matt Noble were responsible for the album’s production.
