Kat Graham was cast in the critically acclaimed supernatural drama series The Vampire Diaries, based on the same-named book series, in March 2009. Her breakout performance occurred when she played Bonnie Bennett, a young witch.
The series aired on September 10, 2009, with 4.91 million viewers and critical acclaim for its advancement. The Vampire Diaries was renewed for a fourth season in May 2012, Ashley Graham took over as the female lead in 2015 after Canadian actress Nina Dobrev left.
Graham got the Teen Choice Award for “Choice TV Female Scene Stealer” in 2011 for her amazing performance on the show.
The Hollywood Reporter reported in August 2010 that Graham has been cast in the Universal Pictures dance drama film Honey 2. As a sequel to the 2003 film Honey, the film recounts the story of a troubled girl who joins a dance squad with dreams of becoming a dancer.
Honey 2 had a limited theatrical release in a few countries, grossing over $8 million globally. The film was released directly to DVD in North America in June 2011 and garnered mixed reviews from critics, however, Graham’s performance and dancing were appreciated.
In the same year, she portrayed the female lead in another dance-oriented film, Dance Fu.
