Biography of Karl Stefanovic
Karl Stefanovic has reached the pinnacle of journalism in Australia and he can look back on his life with pride, which puts him on par with his peers around the world. This journey began on August 12, 1974 in a small town in New South Wales, Darlinghurst, Australia. Karl was welcomed into the world on that fateful day by his parents, Alex Stefanovic and Jenny Stefanovic. He is one of four children of his parents, the rest being two brothers, Tom and Peter Stefanovic, and a sister, Elisa Stefanovic.
It is every parent’s dream for their child to get a good education and do something for themselves in life and achieve this dream for Karl’s parents started at St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School and ended at the Queensland University of Technology where he graduated in journalism in 1994. Karl’s first attempt at working life as a professional was disappointed.
He was unable to get a cadet after graduation. This was not his only disappointment, as he also failed to secure a place at the National Institute of Dramatic Art after an audition he attended on the advice of his father. Eventually, an offer from a TV station, WIN Television, came for Karl. Rather than wait a year to audition for NIDA, he chose to take the job. It was a decision that led Karl to become the man he is today.
Career
He returned to work as a junior reporter for WIN Television in 1994. He spent two years at the station before moving to TVNZ as a reporter for its One News News show. It was a career change that led him to move to New Zealand. Two years in New Zealand were an international experience that proved useful in his professional life. Upon returning to Australia in 1998, he joined Ten News as a reporter and presenter.
After the first six years of his career, where he hasIn 2000, he gained experience on different networks as a reporter and presenter. In 2000, he had a bigger role at Nine Network, where he was hired as a reporter and back-up anchor for the network’s show, National Nine News. While at Nine Network, his career profile rose significantly thanks to an award – the Queensland Media Award for Best Press Coverage.
Since that award, Karl’s journey to the top has been gradual but continuous. He became the host of the Today show in 2005. He also hosted Carols by Candlelight, as he did from 2008 to 2012. He also hosted the This Time Next Year show on the Nine Network. He, however, quit his Today position as host in December 2018 after being relieved by the network due to declining ratings. He is expected to return to his role as host of This Time Next Year.
Karl has also appeared in two film and TV shows, such as Independence Day: Resurgence and The Jesters.
