Karina Smirnoff Biography
Karina Smirnoff is an American ballroom dancer who was born on January 2, 1978, in Kharkiv, Ukrainian. She is half Greek and half Russian descent. She began competing in ballroom dance at a tender age of 11.
As a child, she suffered from severe but undiagnosed attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). She migrated to the U.S in 1993, at the age of 14 and they settled in New York City, USA. She is a reality star and a five-time U.S. National Champion, World Trophy Champion, and Asian Open Champion.
She attended Christopher Columbus High School and the Bronx High School of Science. After graduating from high school, she enrolled at
Fordham University where she double-majored in economics and information systems programming and planned to attend law school.
In 1996, she partnered with Roman Nabatov and competed as an amateur couple for the USA Amateur Latin Championships. In January 1997, they ended their dance partnership. In October 1998, she began dancing with Paul Killick as a professional couple for British Open Dance Championships, where they emerged top 5 in six different events. Her dancing partnership with Paul ended in July 1999.
Immediately that July 1999, she began a professional dance partnership with Louis Van Amstel and they represented the USA, and in December 2000, they terminated their dancing partnership. She later paired with her fellow Ukranian dancer Slavik Kryklyvyy and entered in a dance partnership that began in January 2001 – September 2005, and they dominate ballroom dance competitions for years.
In 2004, Karina and Slavik made a joint cameo in the 2004 film Shall We Dance where they starred Jennifer Lopez and Richard Gere. They earned high ratings and won numerous top titles together.
In 2006, ABC asked her to appear in its popular reality TV series Dancing with the Stars where she played a role in the third season. After her 2006, debut she went on to star in six more seasons of Dancing with the Stars. In May 2011, she featured a nude pictorial in the Playboy magazine. She is also an animal right activist and she posed nude in a racy People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals advertisement over the caption, “I’d rather dance naked than wear fur.”

She has also had other relationships with Chad Johnson 2016 – 2017, Mario Lopez 2006 – 2008 and Slavik Kryklyvyy 2000 – 2005, the relationships did not work out for her.
