The actress Katherine Dee “KaDee” Strickland was born on December 14, 1975, in Los Angeles, California, and is best known for her role as Charlotte King in the ABC television series Private Practice. When she was a kid, she was well-known in her hometown of Patterson, Georgia, and she started performing while still in high school. Strickland studied acting in Philadelphia and New York City, where she landed mainly minor parts in films, television shows, and theatrical productions, including The Sixth Sense and The Last Temptation of Christ (1999). Her appearances in the Hollywood blockbusters Anything Else and Something’s Gotta Give in 2003 led to her being cast in major roles in the horror flicks Anacondas and The Grudge in 2004 and 2005, respectively (both 2004). Although her performances in both films were met with mixed critical reception when they were first released, Strickland was dubbed “the pride of Patterson” and the horror fandom’s “newest scream queen” at the time period in which they were first released. Strickland received excellent critical reception for her performance in the romantic comedy Fever Pitch in 2005. In 2007, she became a cast regular on the television programme The Wedding Bells, and she later joined the cast of the drama Private Practice. Previously, Strickland spoke out against the focus put on physical attractiveness in the Los Angeles acting scene, claiming that her upbringing in the Southern United States has allowed her to differentiate herself from other blonde-haired actresses. She has expressed a fondness for her strong female characters as well as a wish to avoid sexualizing or sensationalising her own self-presentation as a woman in her writing and speaking. As a result of her involvement in a plot in which her Private Practice character Charlotte King was raped, she has also developed a strong working relationship with the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN).
