Kaaga Boys High School is a boys boarding school, located in Ntima location, Meru County. This boys high school has an acreage of 5, acreage per enrollment of 118.4, total enrollment of 592 and a total teaching staff of 29. The school also offers 8-4-4 Kenyan education system.
Kaaga Boys High School is a very old school started way back in 1910 by the first Methodist Missionaries to arrive in Meru. It was a mission center at the time. It is located approximately 1km from Meru School / Kaaga Girls junction. Some of the buildings standing in the compound and still being used were put up in 1926.
All this time the school was intermediate, training on carpentry and home health to Africans. In 1966 it reverted to Harambee Mixed Secondary School. 1967, the school started the second stream. In 1988, the 3rd Government stream was started. In the same year an ‘A’ level class was brought on board. In 1993, the girls were transferred to create Gikumene Girls Secondary School and their boys came to create the current Kaaga Boys.
In year 2007, Kaaga Boys High School was required by the Ministry of Education to start the 4th stream. This was in spite of the fact that the school lacked land and physical facilities. This extra stream exerted tremendous pressure on the available physical infrastructure. Since year 2007, A new class had to be put up every year up to 2010 to complete the 4th stream cycle. Dormitory facilities have also had to be expanded to cater for expansion of students population from 560 in 2007 to 800 in 2015. An extra, 3rd Science laboratory has also to be put up.
Kaaga Boys High School has since been transformed from a small local school to a renowned extra-county academic giant. This has taken place in the last 5 years. Indeed there is pressure to expand the school further to five streams. However, this is untenable taking into account the small size of school compound that denies students adequate ground for co-curricular activities.
Kaaga Boys is really great and fantastic, because it is really a school that has changed boy to gentlemen. The school has quality and the is rapidly growing in standards of education and the special motivation and teamwork is clearly shown by teachers and the school principal who play a big role to the students with crucial leadership and management skills.
Kaaga Boys High School people work in one spirit and they always produce good grades at the end. The school has really sharpened the future of many boys making them have good elite members of the society.

Kaaga Boys Secondary School is now on an upward trend in terms of academics. Indeed the school’s mean score has improved from 5.3 in 2006 to 8.1 in 2014. This mean score is expected to continue increasing as the school expands in other fronts. By end of 2019, the school should be at the mean of close to 10.0.

Kaaga Boys High chool has produced respectable members of the society over time. It has also had its share of ups and downs during this period. The period that the school was intermediate in the 40’s, 50’s, and part of 60’s, the school was a shinning star. However, when the school became a mixed secondary school in 1966, things changed. Through the 70’s, and 80’s, the school attracted majority of students who had now where else to go.
In 1988, when the school become a Boys school, it started the awakening processes. Its academic performance, infrastructure and student population has gradually expanded from a student population of 500 in 2006 to 800 in 2016. In fact there is enormous pressure to expand further. However, the school is faced with a serious challenge of land as it sits on 5 acres of land only.
Kaaga boys’ has become a school of choice lately. They are posting good academic results. The school are aware that they have not reached their peak. In the recent past, they have been admitting students with average marks from primary schools. However, the school trade mark has been value addition on the student admit. Indeed in 2014 results they had two students who had been admitted with 285 marks in KCPE, exiting with A- at KCSE.
It is gratifying to note that their entry behavior has tremendously improved. They are now admitting several students with 350 marks and above, something that was a dream a few years ago. This improved entry behaviors giving the school hope of moving up further from the current mean grade B- to B+.
The school is also proud to note that the school now contributes students to public universities taking courses such as medicine, engineering, education among others.
Kaaga Boys High School has been a sleeping giant. It was woken up and fast catching up with who is who in the academic arena. Their potential is enormous. However, they still have a lot to do in the improvement of infrastructure. They invite the school’s alumni who are all over this country and beyond to show interest in this school that contributed a lot in molding their current lives.
