Filmed in 2007, Our Summer in Tehran features six-year-old Shapiro and Mateo hanging out in the homes of three Iranian middle-class families with young children: a religious family; a family run by a single mother who is an actress; and a family whose son speaks English and is named Daniel.
Shapiro worked back in the United States to persuade Iranian officials to release the footage to her.
