Justin Champagnie And His Twin Brother Julian Champgnie Are Both NBA Athletes

Justin Champagnie and his brother Julian Champagnie are identical twins with a time difference of 11 minutes. Both Justin and Julian Champagnie are currently playing at the highest level of the NBA.

They are among the most talented players in basketball who were drafted into NBA just a year apart from each other. They have everything in common except for their NBA team.

Although they have never played for the same team, the siblings have amassed considerable fame from their respective playing careers. Justin is playing with the Toronto Raptors and has previously played for the Pittsburgh Panthers in college.

Similarly, Julian is playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, on a two-way contract with the Delaware Blue Coats of the NBA G League. In addition, the little twin brother had played collegiate basketball with the St. John’s Red Storm.

Justin Brother Julian Champagnie Plays In NBA

Justin Champagnie brother Julian recently started his NBA journey and is playing for the Philadelphia-based team. He started playing in NBA one year after his older twin.

Julain has been a consistent shooting guard and small forward for the Philadelphia 76ers after his draft in 2022. He enjoyed his honors and achievements before playing on the grandest basketball stage.

The younger twin is a two times First-team All-Big East in 2021 and 2022. In addition, he won the “Big East Co-Most Improved Player” in 2021 and Big “East All-Freshman Team” in 2020.

Born in Staten Island, New York, Julian and Justin were raised in Brooklyn and named to the Third Team All-Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) AA. The Junior Champagnie earned a spot on the First Team All-CHSAA AA as a senior.

Ranford, Julian’s father, was a member of the 1996 national championship team and played soccer for St. John’s in the middle of the 1990s. Along with gaining the love of millions of basketball fans, he has also amassed a large fan following on his social media, gaining over 11.4K followers on his Instagram under the username @jujuchampagnie.

Julian’s Older Twin Justin Champagnie Is Already A NBA Star

Justin Champagnie was predicted to go anywhere from a late first-round choice to an early second-round pick in the 2021 NBA draft. Instead, he signed a two-way agreement with the Toronto Raptors on August 7, after going undrafted in the NBA draft 2021.

He would split time with Raptors 905, the team’s G League affiliate. The Toronto team called Champagnie to make his professional debut since Scottie Barnes was injured and unable to play on November 1, 2021. He re-signed with the Toronto-based team for a two-year deal on July 14, 2022.

Justin And Julian Champagnie Chose To Play For Different College

Justin and Julian had always been together since birth until they finished schooling at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School. After graduating, Justin committed to play college basketball for Pittsburg, while Julain was more interested in playing for St. John’s.

Justin declined the offers from top colleges like Seton Hall, Cincinnati, Dayton, Saint Louis, and Rutgers. At the same time, his brother had offers from Pittsburgh, Washington State, Cincinnati, and Seton Hall. The choice to play for a different college changed the course of their career.

The elder one, Justin, led the ACC Freshman of the Week and CBS Sports/USBWA National Freshman of the Week awards as true freshmen. Unfortunately, he suffered a knee injury during practice on December 22, 2020, and was declared sidelined for at least six weeks.

He was chosen for the First Team All-ACC following the regular season. However, he decided to forgo his remaining collegiate eligibility and enter the 2021 NBA draft after an outstanding sophomore season.

On the other hand, Julain recorded a freshman season-high 23 points and six rebounds. Later, he was selected for the All-Freshman Team and the Big East Freshman of the Week two times each. With his sophomore season debut on November 30, 2020, and an outstanding season, he kept his eligibility for college and declared for the 2021 NBA draft. But, he announced that he was dropping out of the draft and returning to St. John’s for his junior year on July 4, 2021.

As a junior, he was selected to the First Team All-Big East for the second time in a row. Julian declared for the 2022 NBA draft on April 2, 2022, by giving up his remaining NCAA eligibility.

The Toronto Raptors Could Have United Justin And Julian Champagnie

Justin and Julian Champagnie had a chance to play for the same team in the most recent NBA draft. The raptors could have chosen the younger twin to make the Champagnie brothers’ dream come true.

Despite their different college preferences, Brooklyn-born twin brothers Justin and Julian Champagnie seemed destined to play in the NBA together. Yet Justin decided to capitalize on his outstanding performance at Pitt and land a two-way contract with the Toronto Raptors and Julian chose to stay close to home at St. John’s for one more season. He decided to come back to raise his draft prospects.

Due to his scoring prowess, he advanced to the second round, but with a couple more standout displays for the Red Storm this season, he was able to move up into the first-round discussion.

The Raptors were most likely to have a pick in the teens this cycle, but if they find a player later in the draft they want, they could easily trade down and get more money.

Julian might have even more potential, given his more developed game considering that Justin has already demonstrated that he is an NBA-caliber player. While he is a skilled shooter who will be a perimeter threat as soon as he steps on an NBA court, Justin is a power forward who can dominate the glass and finish inside.

The personalities and play styles of the two brothers are quite different. Julian is a little more shy and introverted than Justin, who is more extroverted and daring. If Masai Ujiri, president of the club, had reunited the brothers, they might have worked together to play a significant role in Toronto’s future. Unfortunately, the raptors did not draft him, and now he plays for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Justin and Julian Champagnie Paths To NBA Dream

Justin and Julian Champagnie have different personalities and career choices. Justin is more open and frank, while his brother Julain is more introverted and shy.

Impulsive, Justin was sure that the NBA was his future in February and made his plans clear in May. Julian Champagnie, a more analytical introvert who prefers to work alone, decided to return to school at the beginning of July after months of dissecting data and information.

Even though the Brooklyn-based Champagnie twins appear and sound identical, they are not the same person. Instead, they are following their paths as they pursue a long-held goal.

Justin, who was selected in the second round of the NBA draft on Thursday, told The NewYorkPost that he was delighted about their different career pursuits.

Since Julian didn’t work with an agent like Justin, he decided to return to school for several reasons. He believed he didn’t put forth his best effort due to a wrist injury and didn’t feel confident getting picked up late in the second round.

In the end, Julian decided to take the “safe option” because he thought he couldn’t harm himself by returning to school.

Brooklyn Twins Julian and Justin Champagnie Met For The First Time As NBA Players

Justin Champagnie was ahead of his brother Julain during the birth and his NBA draft. Julain is 11 minutes younger than his twin and was selected a year after in the basketball’s grandest stage.

The Staten Island-born and Brooklyn-raised twins crossed paths professionally for the first time at the NBA Summer League game in Las Vegas between the Raptors and Sixers.

The twins shared a court for the first time since their time at Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn. Pitt and St. John’s clashed in Madison Square Garden on December 18 last year, although neither brother participated. Julian missed the game because of COVID-19, and Justin was already in the NBA.

They played against each other, although Julian said he wasn’t sure; he didn’t anticipate Christina and Ranford, his parents, to be present. However, Justin had the upper hand as the Toronto Raptors defeated the Philadelphia 76ers by defeating 97-77.

Justin And Julian Champagnie Contract Comparison

Justin and Julian Champagnie have signed contracts with two different NBA teams. Justin has a two-year contract, while his brother has a two-way contract.

According to Sportrac, The elder twin has agreed to a two-year deal with the Toronto Raptors for $3,565,862. He will have an average salary of $1,782,931 and guaranteed pay of $825,000.
