As reported by the local media, the neurosurgeon was killed in a crash on Wednesday afternoon on Tucson’s south side. He was riding his black 2021 BMW R18 motorcycle in a northbound lane of South Kino Parkway just after 1 p.m. when he crashed into a tow truck.
Mr. Cetar was immediately taken to Banner University Medical Center, where he was declared dead by the medical team. He was wearing a helmet but it couldn’t save him.
The truck driver cooperated with the police and even helped to take Mr. Cetas to the hospital. As of now, no charges have been filed against the truck driver, and the investigation is still going on.

Mr. Cetas was appointed chair of neurosurgery in July 2021. He was a UA graduate who earned his doctorate in neuroscience and medical degree at the UA College of Medicine.
The Arizona-based neurosurgeon was named an associate professor in 2016 and served as the department’s residency program director since 2017.
Previously, he served as an associate professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery and chief of neurosurgery at the Veterans Affairs Portland Health Care System in Portland, Oregon.
