Russell James Liberman, also known as Jungle Jim Hardy, was a popular American race car driver. The racer was also listed as number 17 on the ‘NHRA’s 50 Greatest Drivers’ list. Unfortunately, Russell lost his life in a car accident on September 9, 1977 at the age of 31.

Also, during the time of his career, he would not attend any event without a certain person by his side. Then, a beautiful lady named Pamela Hardy aka Jungle Pam seen next to her during the year 1972, quickly stood up and caught her eye. Shortly after that, the duo’s career peaked, and on top of that, Pam became the driver’s cool sidekick and ultimate girlfriend. Stay tuned to find out more.

Jungle Jim Hardy: biography, family, education

More than two decades have passed since he left the world, however, the driver was born on September 12, 1945 as Russell James Liberman. He was born in Abington Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, to understanding parents. But there is no information available about his parents or siblings in the media.

For his education, to pursue a career in racing, he dropped out of high school in the early years. There is no information about the high school he had attended. Additionally, he moved to Northern California, where he began drag racing.

Jungle Jim Hardy: career and life achievements

He began his racing career in 1964 in the stock division at Foreman Raceway. After that, he jumped into fun cars driving a nitromethane-injected Nova. In the same year, he began racing nationals as the driver of Lew Arrington’s supercharged GTO Funny Car, Brutus. The following year, in 1966, he climbed into his first supercharged Chevy II and was nicknamed ‘Jungle Jim’ in the same year.

He then went on a tour in 1967 that made him a household name within the drag race. His success led him to race two cars in 1968. Later, along with his partner Pam Hardy he gained great popularity. Additionally, they were featured in several car magazines, including Hot Rod magazines, on the cover of February 1973.

Although he distrusted the NHRA, he had a national event victory in NHRA competition at the 1975 Summernationals. During 1972 and 1972, he attended all 100 races, the record equaled by ‘TV Tommy’ Ivo and ED ‘The Ace’ McCulloch. He also drove Vega’s first candy blue painted fun car which appeared in August 1972 along with Pam. The second Vega was driven by Roy Harris.

Jungle Jim Hardy: Death

Liberman, the funny racer, was killed while driving his 1972 Corvette streetcar in West Goshen Township, near West Chester, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred when he rounded a corner on West Chester Pike at excessive speed, colliding with a SEPTA transit bus on September 9, 1977.

He was killed on the spot by the bus after his car got stuck under the bumper and under the chassis of the bus. Also, getting his body out of the rubble took more than 45 minutes.

Jungle Jim Hardy: personal life and girlfriend

The successful runner had never been married and also had no chance to marry his girlfriend Pam. Because before that he died in a car accident at the age of 31. Also, after naming the beautiful girl Pamela Hardy as his partner, the two had to stay together for a long time. The duo also toured for four years as they began to exude feelings for each other. Therefore, they began to date together.

After his death, Pam moved on and married Fred Frey, owner of Funny Car. However, their relationship did not go well and they divorced after a few years. Since then she seems to be single and not have a relationship with anyone. Also, she is living a low-key life away from the media.

Jungle Jim Hardy: Net Worth and Social Media Profiles

During his lifetime, the racer had amassed a huge following and would become the first choice of certain car companies to advertise their cars. In addition, he had also posed for various car magazine covers with his girlfriend. Therefore, he has spent a lot of time and had his successful career in the 70s and ended after his death in 1977. In that period, his net worth must have been estimated to be above $1 million.

As for social media sites, if I am correct, then it was first recognized in the year 1997. After twenty years after Russell’s death, it is impossible for him to use current social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter.
