When she was six years old, her parents got divorced, and her mother later remarried William Goodyear, whom she looked up to.

Goodyear’s career in the show has its ups and downs, but she is most known for playing the spunky barmaid Bet Lynch in the British soap opera Coronation Street.

She was initially cast in 1966 but left the program briefly at Pat Phoenix’s advice (who portrayed Elsie Tanner) on the condition that she pursue more training. She joined Oldham’s Repertory Theatre at this time.
