The popular ITV soap opera Coronation Street is most known for the role of Bet Lynch, which was played by English actress Julie Goodyear MBE, who was born on March 29, 1942. She made her television debut in 1966 as Bet for a nine-episode run. She continued to be a regular cast member from 1970 to 1995.
Goodyear and her former co-star on Coronation Street, Ken Morley, both signed up for the ITV reality show Celebrity Fit Club in 2005. She was initially chosen to serve as the team captain, but after six weeks, she resigned and Aldo Zilli assumed leadership. During her time on the show, she lost 1 stone 10 pounds, and her team won.
Additionally, Goodyear made cameos on a variety of reality shows, including Age Swap, Celebrity Penthouse, Road Raja, and Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes, in which she impersonated Marlene Dietrich.
In supporting parts in the British drama Tug of War (2006) and the Channel 4 serial opera Hollyoaks in October 2006, she played Mrs. Temple, the owner of a B&B.
In October 2009, she was slated to perform in Calendar Girls on the West End stage, but a virus caused her to quit the play after three weeks. She participated in a Coronation Street-themed episode of Come Dine with Me in December 2010.
