Juju Watkins Parents Sari and Robert Watkins And Inside Her Family

Basketball champion Juju Watkins’ loving parents are Sari and Robert Watkins. The 17-years-old has been considered a generational talent.

Watkins has reached the top of the recruiting ranks and has been highly demanded by the best institutions in the nation.

She initially joined Windward School in Los Angeles, California, and was transferred to Sierra Canyon High School ahead of the school year 2021-2022.

She beat rival Sierra Canyon 66-61 in the 2021 season while scoring 44 points and grabbing 22 rebounds after coming back from an injury.

The youngster assisted the Trailblazers’ 30-2 record in 2022 and their victory over No. 1-ranked Archbishop Mitty, 85-61, in the CIF Open Division State Championship.

Juju, the top prospect in this recruiting class, is said to have selected South Carolina, USC, and Stanford as her final three institutions.

Likewise, the top two teams in the nation, the Gamecocks, and Stanford would both benefit from having a player like Watkins.

Who Are Juju Watkins Parents?

Juju Watkins is one of the four children of Sari and Robert Watkins. She was born to her parents in Sylmar, the city of Los Angeles, California.

Since both of her parents engage in the sports industry, she always has their support while pursuing a career in basketball.

Her parents encouraged her to play basketball more seriously. They knew she was going to devote her full being, going beyond the rec league.

When Watkins started playing travel ball at age 10, she found it difficult to keep up since she lacked some basic abilities.

After spending some time on the bench game after the match, Juju broke down one evening as she and her mother were heading home.

Then, she requested her mother to teach her basketball. That night, the Watkins couple sat at the kitchen table and devised a strategy for coaching their daughter.

After games in middle school, people began coming up to Watkins to introduce themselves. That gave her more motivation to grow even further to make them aware of her work.

Meanwhile, her parents concentrated on remaining in the moment and not obsessing over the media attention that was circling their daughter.

Meet Juju Watkins Mother Sari Watkins

Juju Watkins shares a close bond with her mother, Sari. Growing up, her mom always inspired her to do better in her life.

Watkins’ mom Sari was a high school basketball athlete. She attended Washington Prep, where she played for a few years.

Juju and her eldest brother used to play basketball in the backyard, and she credited him with helping her become “tougher” early on. But, she was never under any pressure to continue playing the sport outside the driveway.

Earlier, Sari wanted her daughter to pursue tennis like Serena Williams and Venus; however, Juju had no interest. She later told her mum about her love of basketball games.

Things started to make more sense to her in the seventh grade. The young child sobbing in her mother’s backseat has now risen to fame.

Watkins recalls when she turned 12; she realized that she was good and ended that summer receiving her first ranking. Soon, she understood that the hard hours spent in the gym and on the driveway had been for a purpose.

Raising Basketball Star Juju Watkins Father Is Robert Watkins

Juju Watkins came from a family with a basketball ground. Her dad, Robert, was a high school basketball athlete at Verbum Dei.

Robert is the son of Ted Watkins Sr., a civil rights activist in the 1960s who founded the Watts Labour Community Action Committee.

Juju was trained every day with her dad for the following couple of years in the backyard or at the Watts gym, which was named for her great-grandfather.

Watkins’ father would take her to the backyard to shoot jumpers when he got home from work. It started with 100 and was followed by 200, 300, and more. Robert recalls it was always about the foundation and the repetition when they first started in the backyard.

According to her dad, Juju’s ability to immediately incorporate everything they worked on in the backyard into the game was one of her best qualities.

Watkins began to see her own potential, and people began to take note. Now, all her coaches, parents, and players wanted to discover the secret to her success.

Juju’s parents encouraged her to find contentment and diversity not just on the court but also in the classroom, as she had been drawn to Sierra Canyon since middle school.

After submitting her application, she was accepted, and Sierra Canyon provided need-based financial assistance. Soon after, the Watts family relocated to a northern Los Angeles suburb that was nearer to the renowned university.

Juju Watkins Uncle Recruited Her To A Recreational League At Westchester Park

According to an ESPN report, Watkins began dribbling a basketball at the age of 7. She credited it to her uncle, who enrolled her in a recreational league at Westchester Park.

As of now, her uncle’s identity has been kept private. Meanwhile, Juju always thanks him for helping her out with basketball games.

Juju experienced the happiness of making a basket while playing with her young cousin. Even though she was only competing with students from her primary school, she felt the thrill of competition.

She contributed 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 blocks in her Sierra Canyon debut as the team prevailed 87-37 victory.

Watkins’ entire family supports her and offers her advice while watching each of her games from the sidelines.

During her 79-28 triumph over Bishop Montgomery, the junior superstar had a moment where she rushed to her family, asking them to remain silent.

She is the first female prep athlete to sign with Klutch Sports Group, owned by LeBron James and Rich Paul. She has a great work ethic, alongside being highly meticulous with her academics and schoolwork.
