Juan entered boxing after being inspired by his brother. He made his debut on 29th May 1993 at the age of 19 years, but lost the match due to disqualification to Javier Duran. However subsequently in later years, he has been extremely successful. Marquez has been a champion in the featherweight, lightweight, super featherweight and the welterweight divisions in boxing and has many championships to his name.
Juan has fought with many famous fighters such as Robbie Peden, Daniel Jimenez, Freddie Norwood and Derrick Gainer to become the WBA Super Champion in 2004. He also became the Super Featherweight champion on March 17th 2007 by defeating Barrera, after which, he defended his title against the American boxer Rocky Juarez and Jorge Rodrigo Barrios an Argentinean Boxer. He also gained his welterweight championship by defeating Floyd Mayweather. Juan has been ranked in the first position in the junior welterweight division, and also on the third position for the best pound for pound boxer in the world by the Ring Magazine. He has a total of 62 fights to his name with an impressive record of 55 wins and only 6 losses and 1 draw. Juan earned 5 million from his fight with Manny Pacquiao on 8th December 2012.
