Bluegrass musician Jesse Lester McReynolds was from the United States. He became especially well-known for his unique cross-picking and split-string mandolin playing techniques. Virginia’s Coeburn is where McReynolds was born.
Around 1947, he and his brother Jim start performing together. Initially, they went by the name “The McReynolds Brothers.”
For Kentucky Records in 1951, guitarist Larry Roll collaborated with Jesse and Jim to record ten gospel songs under the moniker “The Virginia Trio.”
Nashville received some very sad news this morning with Joy McReynolds’ confirmation that her husband, Jim & Jesse star Jesse McReynolds, has entered hospice care.
It’s hard to realize that Jesse has been playing bluegrass music professionally for 70 years. They released their debut record as Jim & Jesse in 1952, with his brother Jim serving as their first guitarist.
