Glenn Greenwald Early Life
Glenn Greenwald was born in New York City to his parents, Arlene (mother) and Daniel Greenwald (father).
When he was barely six, his parents split up and relocated to Lauderdale Lakes, Florida.
His grandparents attempted to convert him to Judaism when he was young. However, despite the efforts of his Jewish parents and grandparents, he rejected Judaism and eventually came not to practice any organized religion at all.
Moreover, Gleen’s grandfather encouraged him to participate in elections when he was only 17. He decided to compete for an at-large council seat in the 1985 election.
However, he remained unsuccessful, finishing in fourth place with only 7% of the vote.
Greenwald again tried and he stood for the election in 1991 and ran again for the at-large seat on the council at 23, securing third place, but again lost the election with just less than half the vote of the total votes of his other two competitors.
Later, he stopped and concentrated on his academics during his municipal council candidacy after two consecutive defeats. He graduated from the University of George Washington with a B.A. in philosophy in 1990 and the New York University School of Law with a J.D. in 1994.
