Joshua David Shapiro is an American lawyer and politician.
He is serving as the Pennsylvania Attorney General since 2017.
Shapiro was born on June 20, 1973, in Kansas City, Missouri, and was brought up in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
He completed Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy high school and enrolled at the University of Rochester, where he became the first freshman to be elected as the student body president in 1992. In 1995, he graduated magna cum laude.
In 2002, he graduated from Georgetown University Law Center with a Juris Doctor.
Shapiro was elected as the Chairman of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners in 2011, marking the first time in Montgomery County history that the Republican Party lost control of the board.
Amid his tenure, the board of commissioners adopted zero-based budgeting and switched the county’s pension investments from hedge funds to index funds.
Shapiro and his running mate, Val Arkoosh, both won the election in 2015, giving Democrats a majority on the board of commissioners.
