Josh Kruger’s cause of death: What happened to Philadelphia journalist Josh Kruger?
A journalist and advocate who rose from homelessness and addiction to work on social media for his city’s mayor was shot and killed at his home early Monday.
The incident happened overnight in Philly and left 39-year-old Josh Kruger collapsed on the street outside his Point Breeze home, police said. An incident report further revealed how Kruger, at about 1:30 am ET, was shot a total of seven times during the home invasion, and that the suspect – or suspects – are still at large.
Kruger overcame homelessness and addiction to work for five years in city government, handling Mayor Jim Kenney’s social media and serving as the communications director for the city’s Office of Homeless Services.
He left city government in 2021 to return to journalism, according to his website. He wrote for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Weekly, Philadelphia City Paper, and other publications.
