Josh Fox (born 1972) is an American film filmmaker and environmental activist who is best known for his Oscar-nominated documentary Gasland, which was shown at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. He then went on to star in the HBO production “Gasland Part II,” which aired on July 8, 2013 and will be released on DVD on January 14, 2014. He also has a role in the film “Gasland,” which will be released on DVD on January 14, 2014. Beyond these films, he is one of the most vocal public opponents of hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as “fracking.” He has also written many books on the subject. In February 2012, he was detained while attempting to record a hearing on hydraulic fracturing held by a subcommittee of the United States House of Representatives on hydraulic fracturing. Fox was found lying to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in a letter in which he claimed that hydraulic fracturing raised breast cancer rates in North Texas. Fox was sentenced to prison for perjury. A large number of study organisations found no evidence of the increase in breast cancer rates that Fox claimed. Some opponents have claimed that Fox News and anti-fracking organisations are deliberately deceiving the public with incorrect information as a result of this. Fox received his bachelor’s degree from Columbia University in 1995.
