The main vocalist of the rock band Loverboy is Joseph Michael John “Mike” Reno (born January 8, 1955), formerly known as Joseph Michael Rynoski, who is a Canadian drummer and musician. A self-taught guitarist, it is claimed that he was involved in the crime. Loverboy was formed with the assistance of various bands, notably Moxy. His first marriage produced a son, Alex Reno, who was born on January 23, 1988, and is the only child of Reno and his first wife. Reno began his musical career as a drummer in a cover band named Morning Glory while still in school in the early 1970s. He then joined the cover band Synergy, which he joined after graduating. The next year, Reno joined a band named Spunk, which included guitarist Jack Stoltz as the lead guitarist. Reno went to Calgary, Alberta, after graduating from Penticton Secondary School, where he temporarily joined the band Moxy for a single album, Under the Lights, which was released in 1978. Because of the changes in the band’s lineup as well as Reno’s distinctive vocal style, it was a significant departure from the band’s prior releases, and it did not do quite so well as the band’s earlier efforts. Finally, in 1979, at a nightclub called The Refinery, Reno was introduced to Paul Dean, and the two of them immediately got together for a jam session, which resulted in the creation of Loverboy a few months later. It was 1980 when Loverboy launched their first album, and the band went on to tour extensively and produce three more multi-platinum albums between 1981 and 1985. While Wildside (1987) was Loverboy’s final full-length album of original material released during the 1980s, the band did add three new original songs on the compilation album Big Ones (1988). (1989). Reno has also contributed to a number of film soundtracks during his career as well. Footloose was released in 1984, and he sang “Almost Paradise,” a duet with Ann Wilson of Heart, for the film. A Loverboy song, “Heaven in Your Eyes,” was written by the band for the 1986 film Top Gun.
For the soundtrack of Iron Eagle II in 1988, Reno provided the song “Chasing the Angels,” and for the film Dream a Little Dream in 1989, the song “Whenever There Is a Night” was written by Reno. Reno is also said to have recorded a cover version of the song “Never Been To Spain,” which was penned by Hoyt Axton and previously covered by the band Three Dog Night for their album Harmony in 1971. The Three Dog Night version of the song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 list. Tim Feehan’s solo album Tracks I Forgot About was published in 2003, and it included the song “Call of the Wild,” which includes Reno on vocals and was written by Feehan. The emergence of grunge bands such as Pearl Jam and Nirvana, according to Reno in a late-’90s VH1 interview, was a contributing factor to Loverboy’s demise. His debut solo album, Renovation, was published in 2002 and was a commercial success. Although the album is comprised of 10 songs that are eerily similar to the sound of his previous work with Loverboy, depending on the source, some CDs include a bonus track. Apparently recorded in the early 1990s (reportedly 1992), the album was scheduled to be published by Sony, but the company decided to postpone the project indefinitely owing to changes in the music business… developments that Reno discussed in his previously masked performance..
