Jonathan Diba-Musangu, the 23-year-old rapist who played for Dale in the 2010s, was sentenced to 28 years in prison at Minshull St Crown Court on Friday (24 September).
He was being charged with five counts of rape, assault of a child, two counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, sexual assault of a child under 13, and three counts of sexual activity with a child under 13.
The court heard that when the former St Cuthbert’s pupil was 14 or 15 years old, he raped a seven-year-old girl in the presence of another young boy at a house in Rochdale.
Following a report of sexual assault in 2018, GMP initiated an investigation. During this time, the Chadderton-born 23-year-old played football for several different clubs.
He signed a semi-professional goalkeeping contract with Mossley FC in mid-October 2018. Detectives arrested him for several offenses later that month.
