Jonas Jerebko, a Swedish professional basketball player, was born on March 2, 1987. He was only the second basketball player of Swedish heritage to be taken in the NBA Draft, following Miles Simon, when the Detroit Pistons made him their 39th overall pick in the second round of the 2009 NBA Draft.
Jerebko played for a total of 10 seasons with four different NBA teams: the Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, Utah Jazz, and Golden State Warriors. He most recently spent the last two seasons playing for the Russian team Khimki before joining CSKA Moscow on March 30, 2022.
However, the news of Jerebko’s signing with CSKA Moscow, which came a month after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, was ridiculed in his native Sweden.
His decision cost him at least one company’s sponsorship, and the Swedish national team consequently suspended him. As a result, Jerebko parted ways with CSKA Moscow on June 18, 2022.
Jerebko began competing for the Swedish national team when he was 18 years old. Since then, he has competed for Sweden in the 2022 EuroBasket qualifiers, the 2013 EuroBasket, and the 2023 World Cup qualifiers. But he was dismissed from the team after deciding to sign with CSKA Moscow.
