Jon A. Shirley (born 1938) served as Microsoft’s president from 1983 to 1990 and as a director until 2008. Shirley was born in the city of San Diego in the state of California. He went at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Shirley began her career with Tandy Corporation in 1968, working in sales, marketing, production, and international operations. In 1983, he resigned from Tandy as vice president of computer merchandising to join Microsoft as president, chief operating officer, and director. Shirley’s refusal to update his second PC to Windows Vista after updating his first was subsequently reported in the news. He and his late wife Mary amassed a large collection of art, including pieces by Alexander Calder and others. The Seattle Art Museum now has its collection on display.
