A former White Ribbon ambassador has been identified as the perpetrator of years of significant sexual violence against his wife.
Jon Seccull, 43, has only been named after his ex-wife agreed to let The Age print his name.
Michelle Skewes, his former partner, claimed silence was an abuser’s most powerful tool.
In June, a jury found Seccull guilty of nine counts of rape, two acts of assault, and one count of threatening to inflict serious injury.
He was a former jail officer who was involved in charity fundraising in the small Victorian city of Ballarat.
Jon Seccull Trial 2021 Update: Wife Michelle Skewes
Jon was charged with three charges of rape, one act of assault, and one count of threatening to kill when he was apprehended in 2017.
He appeared to be a nice husband, but what he expected of his wife is unfathomable.
He was charged with 12 counts of rape, two counts of assault, and one count of threatening to inflict significant injury when the trial began.
After the event in February 2017, the man was convicted guilty of two counts of rape in September.
Jon Seccull Charges- Is He Sentenced To Jail?
For raping his estranged wife while his children were confined outside their old family home, Jon Seccull was sentenced to eight years in prison.
As his sentence was handed out in the Victorian County Court in Ballarat, Jon Seccull sat unmovingly and stared straight ahead.
Judge Bill Stuart said, “The rape of your wife comprised a deliberate and calculated attack by you on her in an environment where your victim expected to feel protected.”
Who Is He Married To?
Michelle Skewes was 19 years old when she met Jon Seccull for the first time.
They were members of the local fire department as volunteers. On the surface, everyone who knew him described him as a “big teddy bear,” which he always was, but behind closed doors, he transformed into a monster she feared.
She returned to university in 2013 to pursue a nursing/paramedic degree.
Seccull subjected Ms. Skewes to controlling, demeaning, and threatening abuse and assault over a four-and-a-half-year period, prosecutor Damien Hannan told a pre-sentencing hearing in Melbourne’s County Court on Monday.
