Bruce Kovner Net Worth: Bruce Kovner is an American businessman who has a net worth of $4.9 billion. Born Bruce Stanley Kovner on February 27, 1945 in The Bronx, New York, he ranks in the top 100 billionaires in the U.S. today. He is best known as the founder and chairman of Caxton Associates, a hedge fund that trades a global macro strategy. Not only that the company is the main source of Kovner’s wealth, but it is also regarded to be one of the world’s top and largest 10 hedge funds with an estimated $14 billion under management. A high achiever who also excelled as a basketball player and pianist, Kovner quit his Harvard Ph.D. in economics after a fit of writer’s block. Thus, he switched to driving taxis, writing and studying harpsichord at Julliard. He was 31 when he managed to turn the $3,000 that he borrowed on his credit card into $45,000 by trading soybeans. However, he soon saw that sum cut in half. Having learned a key lesson in risk management, Bruce Kovner went on to set up hedge fund firm Caxton Associates in 1983 and accumulated over $12 billion in net gains for investors throughout his career. But despite the large amount of assets under management, his company is one of top 25 most enigmatic and secretive hedge funds globally. As for Kovner himself, he is described as secretive even by family and friends. This well-heeled divorcee and father of three is one of the least known New York City billionaires outside of professional circles. In addition to the above, Bruce Kovner is a great philanthropist and former chairman of American Enterprise Institute.
