‘Seinfeld’s’ John O’Hurley on supporting Trump in Hollywood: ‘I was embarrassed for my profession’

John O’Hurley has learned to keep his political views to himself.

The actor, best known as Elaine Benes’ eccentric boss J. Peterman on “Seinfeld,” is part of a small group of Hollywood stars who supported President Trump in the 2016 presidential election.

“Every time I have mentioned that I supported Trump in this election, people get vicariously angry at me, and they don’t believe that it’s possible that someone might think differently than they do,” O’Hurley told Fox & Friends Thursday.

“There is a band of conservatism in Hollywood but it leans so much to one side that it doesn’t allow for free discussion,” he said.

The “Swing Away” star added he doesn’t understand why his fellow actors believe they set the standard of morality.

“Never in the history of entertainment were actors considered moral barometers,” he said. “Now all of a sudden we feel as though we have the mantle of moral behavior from Hollywood?”

Referencing the mounting allegations of sexual assault and harassment against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, O’Hurley added, “And as we’ve seen over the last couple of weeks, I think it might be time for us to weed our own garden.”

He specifically criticized the cast of the Broadway show “Hamilton” for calling out Vice President Mike Pence last year when he attended their show.

“I was embarrassed for my profession because I don’t think we should be pontificating from the stage,” said the seasoned Broadway actor. “I wouldn’t do it and I wouldn’t allow it with my cast.”

The 63-year-old also spoke out against the NFL national anthem protests.

“I think it’s ridiculous. I go to the NFL for escapism. I don’t want to be slapped in the face with somebody’s political views,” he shared.

O’Hurley said just like he should not be allowed to “stand up in the middle of a Broadway show and announce my political views,” NFL players should keep their views to themselves.

“I don’t believe that [it’s their constitutional right because they are] underemployment — and they are being employed at the time.”

‘Seinfeld’ Actor John O’Hurley Pushes Back On Hollywood’s New McCarthyism

“Seinfeld” actor and former “Family Feud” host, John O’Hurley lambasted the push by some in Hollywood to out supporters of President Donald Trump.

“Seinfeld” actor and former “Family Feud” host, John O’Hurley is speaking out about the push by some in Hollywood to out supporters of Pres. Donald Trump. The star says the latest push to keep conservative thought out of Hollywood is “obscene.”

Trump fundraiser
Last week, “Will & Grace” star Eric McCormack and Debra Messing tweeted about an upcoming Trump fundraiser.

The Beverly Hills event is scheduled during the 2019 Emmy Awards.

John O’Hurley said in an interview on Monday, “I think they have the bully pulpit right now to say it out loud. I don’t think it permeates Hollywood to the degree that you think it is”. “I think there is a nature among liberal thinkers to form packs, to form groups, whereas the conservative mind is basically an individual, and they’re tougher to find.”

McCormack was the first to call for McCarthy-style outing of anyone who attends:

“Hey, @THR, kindly report on everyone attending this event, so the rest of us can be clear about who we don’t wanna work with. Thx,” he tweeted on Friday.

Debra Messing followed on Saturday, tweeting: “Please print a list of all attendees, please. The public has a right to know.”

Maybe they should do their own work and figure out who’s not at the Emmy’s on Sept. 19. Assuming everyone, not in attendance is at the fundraiser seems as irresponsible as what they’re asking for.

Hollywood blacklisting
John O’Hurley scoffed at McCormack and Messing for wanting Trump supporters out so as not to come into contact with different points of view.

“Let me just say I’m embarrassed for both of them because I know them both,” he started.

“I’ve worked with Debra before. They’re both smart people… they do wonderful work. But, they’re pushing a case that falls apart from the sheer weight of its lunacy, as though the Hollywood community needs to be purged of this social and intellectual hygiene problem called conservative thinking.”

“It underscores the fact that we aren’t receptive to a diversity of thought which is the exact opposite of what you feel the liberal way would be, and I find that obscene.”

That today’s Hollywood elites are calling for the same blacklisting their predecessors fought against during the post-WWII “red scare” must have them spinning in their graves.

Conservatives in Hollywood
McCormack and Messing’s call to out Trump supporters in Hollywood perfectly displays why conservatives and Republicans often hide their opinions.

“It’s very difficult to be a conservative in Hollywood,” O’Hurley admitted. “Even though there are many of us, you do feel you are an island fighting the storm… all viewpoints must be observed and respected.”

However, O’Hurley says there are also non-conservative actors who are interested in a free exchange of ideas.

“At the same time we are supporting free-thinking, we also have to support free receptors – people that will allow other ideas to infect them,” he says.

“Some of the best convos I’ve ever had on ‘Seinfeld’… were with Michael Richards who thinks totally different than I do. I couldn’t wait to present him with an issue because I was always interested in his perspective.”

O’Hurley also said, “Malcolm in the Middle” and “Breaking Bad” actor, Bryan Cranston, is someone who “can sit for hours and discuss an idea… not with the premise of trying to convince each other.”

Hopefully, enough in Hollywood will join John O’Hurley in realizing just how dangerous and absurd McCormack and Messing’s message is. Otherwise, a new, self-imposed McCarthyism and blacklisting will be in full swing.
