John Graham McVie (born November 26, 1945) is a British bass guitarist best known for his work with the rock bands John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers and Fleetwood Mac. He is also a member of the band The Who. The name of the band was derived from his surname, which was merged with that of Mick Fleetwood, who served as the band’s lead singer. He joined Fleetwood Mac in 1967, soon after the band’s founding by guitarist Peter Green, and took over for interim bassist Bob Brunning, who had left the band. Christine Perfect, a blues pianist and vocalist who would go on to become a member of Fleetwood Mac two years later, married him in 1968. John and Christine McVie, on the other hand, divorced in 1977. Around this time, the band began work on the album Rumours, which became a significant artistic and financial success. The title of the album was inspired by the turbulence in McVie’s and other band members’ personal and professional lives. Because of his work with Fleetwood Mac, he was honoured with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
