John Marino Draft: Who drafted John Marino?

Defenseman Ty Smith and a third-round draft pick in 2023 were given to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for defenseman John Marino, who was formerly owned by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In order to strengthen their blue line, the New Jersey Devils struck a deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins, receiving defenseman John Marino in exchange for defenseman Ty Smith and a third-round draft selection in 2023.

This is a fantastic illustration of what experts refer to as a “hockey trade.”

The Devils went into the summer seeking to acquire some seasoned quality to the back end after a catastrophic 2021–22 year, and they succeeded in doing so by signing Marino from the Penguins.

Marino, a legitimate top-four defender who is only 25 years old, excels most in his own end.

The Massachusetts native is careful with the puck, commits minimal penalties, and over the past two seasons has produced some of the league’s best defensive numbers at even strength.

Last season, he also contributed a decent 25 points in 81 games to provide his team some offensive value.
