John Kay parents: Meet Fritz Krauledat and Elsbeth Krauledat

John Kay’s parents were Fritz Krauledat and Elsbeth Krauledat. Fritz was born on June 13, 1913, in Absteinen, East Prussia, Germany. Elsbeth was born on March 31, 1918, in Tilsit, East Prussia, Germany.

Fritz was a carpenter and Elsbeth was a homemaker. They married in 1938 and had two children, John and his younger sister, Helga.

In 1945, Fritz and Elsbeth fled East Prussia with their children during the evacuation of the region. They eventually settled in Canada, where John changed his name to John Kay.

Fritz and Elsbeth were both supportive of John’s musical career. They attended his early concerts and were always proud of his accomplishments.

Fritz died in 1979 and Elsbeth died in 2002. John Kay has said that he misses his parents very much and that they were a great source of inspiration to him.

Their son, John Kay is a German-born American rock singer, songwriter, and guitarist known as the frontman of Steppenwolf. He is best known for his lead vocals on the band’s hit singles “Born to Be Wild” and “Magic Carpet Ride”.

Kay was born in East Prussia, Germany, and moved to Canada with his family in 1958. He began his musical career in the early 1960s, playing in various bands in Toronto. In 1967, he formed Steppenwolf with guitarist Michael Monarch, bassist Rushton Moreve, drummer Jerry Edmonton, and keyboardist Goldy McJohn.

Steppenwolf quickly became one of the most popular rock bands in the world, thanks to their hard-driving sound and Kay’s charismatic stage presence. They released a string of hit albums in the late 1960s and early 1970s, including “Monster”, “At War with the World”, and “Steppenwolf 7.”

Kay left Steppenwolf in 1971 to pursue a solo career. He released several solo albums in the 1970s and 1980s, but he never achieved the same level of success as he did with Steppenwolf. Kay rejoined Steppenwolf in 1980, and the band has continued to tour and record ever since. They released their most recent album, “Resurrection”, in 2017.
