Joe Gomez’ Biography,
Joe Gomez was born Joseph Dave Gomez on May 23, 1997 in Catford, a district in southeast London. At a very young age, Gomez dreamed of becoming a great footballer. He reportedly had pictures of big Premier League stars such as Rio Ferdinand on his wall as he hoped to one day live his dream.
Gomez began his journey to the top in the Sunday League where he was scouted by neighboring club Charlton Athletic in south east London. According to Gomez, Charlton invited him on a six-week trial, following which he was rejected by the club. Despite his broken heart, the young lad returned to the Sunday League and continued to put on the performances that won him a lawsuit. A few months later, Charlton sent him another invitation and this time accepted him into his academy program.
At the age of 10, Gomez looks head and shoulders above her peers. Three years later, he made his debut for the club’s Under-18 team, which was a testament to his growth and ability. Those abilities weren’t overlooked when the biggest clubs began calling on his services, but Gomez remained with The Addicks and signed his first professional contract with the team when he came of age in 2014. He previously made his debut in first team. A few months prior, he had made 24 appearances for Charlton in his first senior campaign.
Having somewhat completed his development, Joe’s next step for Gomez was to join a bigger club that matched his personal ambitions. In the summer 2015 transfer window, the versatile defender joined Liverpool for a fee of around £3.5million. He then made his first-team debut for the club on 9 August 2015 in a game against Stoke City, where he contributed the game’s only goal. Everything was going according to plan for the player that year until he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury while on international duty with the England U21 side.
Joe Gomez spent a full year on the sidelines before he could resume training, picking up where he left off. In January 2017, he made his first start since the terrible 2015 injury in an FA Cup game against Plymouth Argyle. He made a few substitute appearances in the coming months before securing himself the right position, mainly due to the injury suffered by the previous incumbent chairman. The player has since become an international international and is among the first names in the Liverpool team.
Family
Joe Gomez has three sisters and one brother. He acknowledges that his whole family, especially his Gambian father, Gus, and his English mother, Linda, played a huge role in making him not only the player, but also the person he is today.
Gomez credits his composure to his parents, he says, helped him make the decisions that led him to play at the highest level today. He revealed that as a teenager he didn’t get carried away by the interests of big Premier League clubs, or their big money offers. He was instilled into himself he needed to go through his stage of development and earn useful first-team action as a young lad before jumping at any opportunity that had to be carefully thought out.
