Just three months after turning 100, Joe passed away on April 18, 2023.
Joe Cattini, a veteran of D-Day, made the remark to Nick Ferrari of LBC in advance of Sunday’s Remembrance Day.
“I think they should be remembered because I’m not the hero,” he said of the children who perished during the invasion. I got by. They failed to.
They are the heroes because they sacrificed their lives so that we might enjoy this peace for so many years. It’s very great.
The D-Day veteran was then questioned about his clearest D-Day memories by Nick.
“The first memory I had was on the ship that took us to the beaches,” he retorted. Fortunately, I did not make the initial landings. I didn’t arrive until a few hours after the first guys entered the plane.
But what I discovered once I landed on the beach was very surprising. In the water, there were floating bodies.
