Jodi Benson Biography
Jodi Benson is an American actress, voice actress, and singer. She is best known for providing both the speaking and the singing voice of Disney’s Princess Ariel in The Little Mermaid.
Benson was born and raised in a Catholic environment, graduating from Boylan Central Catholic High School in Rockford, Illinois. Benson attended Boylan Central Catholic High School, which is located in Rockford, Illinois; she later enrolled at the Millikin University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Jodi Benson has starred in a few numbers of movies over the years and they include; Hunter in 1991, Caroline in the City in 1997, The Brotherhood of Poland, New Hampshire in 2003, Enchanted in 2007 and a few more.
She has also appeared in Direct-to-Video such as Why Christmas Trees Aren’t Perfect in 1990, Disney Sing Along Songs: Friends Like Me in 1992, Disney Sing Along Songs: Circle of Life in 1994, Mickey’s Fun Songs: Beach Party at Walt Disney World in 1995, Guide Posts Junction in 1995, Blablaland in 1998 and many more.
Benson has also featured in video games such as Ariel’s Story Studio in 1997, A Bug’s Life in 1998, Disney Arcade Frenzy in 1999, Grandia II and Disney’s Alladin in Nasira’s Revenge in 2000, Kingdom Hearts in 2002, Onimusha 3: Demon Siege in 2004, Kingdom Hearts II in 2005, Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey in 2007, Kinect Disneyland Adventures in 2011, Disney Princess: My Fairytale Adventures and Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion in 2012, Disney Magical World 2 in 2016 and many more.
Benson voiced the character Barbie in the 1999 Golden Globe-winning movie Toy Story 2. She also featured in its 2010 Academy Award-winning sequel Toy Story 3. She also voiced Barbie in the Toy Story cartoon Hawaiian Vacation. For her contributions to the Disney company, Benson was named a Disney Legend in 2011.

Ariel has received a mixed reception from critics; some publications such as Time criticize her for being too devoted to Eric whereas others, such as Empire, praise the character for her rebellious personality, a departure from previous Disney Princesses. Halle Bailey will play the live-action version of the character in the live-action adaptation of the original 1989 film.
