Mpho Moerane, the current head of the ANC’s Johannesburg caucus and regional task team fundraiser, is serious but stable in hospital, according to the ANC in the Greater Johannesburg region.
The ANC wishes comrade Mpho a rapid recovery, according to ANC regional coordinator Dada Morero, who also asks that people give the family and the ANC room to provide assistance to Cde Mpho to guarantee his healing.
The exact location of the incident is unknown, although sources indicate that the former mayor was driving alone.

He went into a coma on Tuesday morning when his heart stopped beating and he was revived. Resulting in the deaths of two Joburg mayors, Geoff Makhubo and Jolidee Matongo, Moerane became mayor in October last year.
At the ANC Johannesburg elective conference this weekend, he was slated to run for regional chair. Jolidee Matongo, who died in a tragic vehicle accident on the Golden Highway in Lenasia South in September, had been succeeded by Makhubo.
He took over as mayor of Johannesburg in October of last year, replacing his predecessor, Jeff Makhubo, who died of a Covid-19 problem in July.
The South African politician had just returned from an ANC local elections event in Naledi, Soweto, where he was fighting alongside President Cyril Ramaphosa just hours before the tragic crash that killed two others.
