Jim Taylor was an American football fullback who played professionally in the NFL for ten seasons, with the Green Bay Packers and with the expansion New Orleans Saints. He was born on September 20, 1935, in Baton Rouge, Lousiana, U.S.A.

Taylor had two paper routes to help his widowed mother make ends meet. He delivered the morning and afternoon routes by bicycle for three dollars a week. Taylor stayed in town and played college football at Louisiana State University for coach Paul Dietzel’s LSU Tigers football team. In 1954, he played on LSU’s freshman team but due to struggles in the classroom, he transferred to Hinds Community College in Raymond, Mississippi as a sophomore. The NFL football fullback then returned to LSU as a junior. While at Hinds college, he met his future wife Dixie Grant.

Taylor finished his career as the NFL’s second-leading all-time rusher behind former record-holder Jim Brown of the Cleveland Browns. According to  David Baker, who is a Pro Football Hall of Fame president and CEO, Jim Taylor lived life the same way he played football, with passion, determination, and love for all he did.
