Jim Bouton (/?ba?tn/; born March 8, 1939) is a former professional baseball player from the United States. Between 1962 and 1978, Bouton pitched for the New York Yankees, Seattle Pilots, Houston Astros, and Atlanta Braves in Major League Baseball (MLB). Before earning his first professional deal with the Yankees, Bouton played collegiate baseball at Western Michigan University. He played in the 1963 MLB All-Star Game and was a part of the 1962 World Series winners. He developed and threw a knuckleball later in his career. Bouton wrote Ball Four, a baseball book that was both a journal of his 1969 season and a biography of his time with the Yankees, Pilots, and Astros.
